Zehrs on Lauzon: Quick Thinking Health Care Aide

I was shopping at Zehrs yesterday on Saturday August 14th picking up a handful of items my grandmother needed, as she has difficulty shopping due to COPD. While waiting in line to pay and seeing +6 customers walk by I noticed an elderly woman seated on a set of blue stairs who appeared to have difficulty breathing. Following a handful of questions I ran to get her a bottle of cold water and grab the pharmacy team members to help assess the situation. I really wanted to call out another customer - named Mary - who luckily turned out to be a nurse aide and was really able to immediately take over the situation. She assessed the elderly woman's vitals which were erratic and quickly summarized her reasoning for this woman's medical issues. Because of Mary's calm assessment of the situation I was able to provide the 911 operator with very clear and concise information. Mary also quickly instructed the pharmacy team to grab a baby aspirin and then ensured the elderly woman chewed it prior to swallowing to ensure rapid ingestion. I also wanted to call out the customer - which I was not able to get his name - who immediately volunteered to run outside and direct the ambulance to where we were (he ran like a bat out of hell to be honest lol). Lastly, although it was not necessary it was a very kind gesture of the Zehrs manager to not charge me for the groceries, which made me cry because they were for my grandmother so the gesture was immediately paid forward!!! My grandmother was touched and expressed her gratitude as well.

What a great moment for me to experience in this city, seeing strangers come together when one of our community members is in need!!! My heart is happy today as such.

Paramedic Student

I want to give a huge huge shout out to the young woman that we met at metropolitan hospital on Tuesday. My husband was brought in because he had taken a pretty nasty fall after going into a seizure. Both of my young children had to come in with me. We had waited nearly 12 hours before even being seen by a doctor and of course my children were exhausted and scared for their daddy. To be completely honest, I was a nervous wreck. We met a lovely young woman who sat with us for nearly 4 hours. She had just finished up a shift and I can't tell you how much I really needed her kindness. She distracted both my kids (and myself) by playing with them and genuinely cared about what we were all going through. Kiana, if you see this post, THANK YOU SO SO MUCH! I have no doubt that you will be an amazing, compassionate paramedic next year! P.S my husband is feeling much better!

Angry old man threatens female motorcyclist

To the old man with the fragile ego that felt the need to inflict his road rage upon me and my motorcycle today on tecumseh near Lauzon. At a stop, you decided to pull your giant, black, SUV up behind my bike within 5 inches, to initiate your expression of anger I assume. When I turned and flashed you the finger for pulling up dangerously close to me, you proceeded to pull up NEXT TO ME IN THE SAME LANE to roll your window down and tell me that "I cut you off. And I know what I did". As the light turned green, your rage then made you gun it to make sure that you cut me off in our, now shared, lane. You could have easily crushed my bike and killed me with your actions today. Not to mention how intimidating it is as a female rider to have an aggressive male pull up in a dangerous and threatening manner. Your behaviour makes me weep for your family and worry for any children around you. If a simple, unintended cut off can cause you to almost kill a motorcyclist, what do you do at home???

Try yoga. Or a diet change to deal with that anger problem.
