Huntington's Indy Go-Kart Challenge
$10,000 raised for HD families in Windsor/ Essex County
Sunday, September 07, 2014
For Immediate Release
(Windsor, ON) The acrid smell of burning rubber drifted over west Windsor on Sunday as local residents got together at Zap Zone Fun Centre to race for a cure for Huntington Disease. The Huntington's Indy Go-Kart Challenge raised over $10,000, which will assist families coping with the devastating effects of Huntington disease
There was some intense racing out there today, joked Paul Bateman, Essex County Chapter President. I heard a lot of trash talking as drivers strapped into the go karts. Paul continues. We are so thankful for the support we receive from our friends, families and sponsors. The money raised today goes toward finding treatments and hopefully, at some point, a cure for this horrible disease. In the meantime a portion of the funds also assists families by providing professional services for those struggling with impact of Huntington Disease on their lives.
The Indy Go-Kart Challenge is a Canada wide event and has been very successful for the Essex County Chapter. Each year at least $10,000 is contributed locally and, to date, well over $1,000,000 nationally.
Huntington disease (HD) is a hereditary brain disorder with devastating effects on both mind and body. 1 in 1,000 Canadians are affected by the disease. Every child of a person with HD has a 50% risk of inheriting the disease.

I've always been very prideful about my stance on how I viewed the human race for their ability to ignore those who they didn't know or were not close to because of many reasons. Be it lack of time in one's day for concern or the fear of the unknown which maybe the news is very good at making people feel like their good actions towards others may only be rewarded with heartache. But tonight someone of which I never did get their name had taken 45mins of their night, not really knowing who I was, while on a date with their girlfriend/ wife(?0, just to return my wallet which had dropped out of the car. This person didn't take any reward that I offered but only my praise and gratitude. Grand respect and thanks goes out to this gentleman for not only returning my wallet but for also renewing my faith that there are still people who through their selfless acts make this world that much more wonderful to live in. Thank you sir, you've been spotted!
This is for all those "spotted" yesterday (Sat Sept 6) who pulled over or stopped in their vehicles for a brief time while the funeral procession I was part of was en route to lay our loved one to rest. Young and old, families, those in work vehicles...you all had somewhere to go on a busy Saturday morning, but you took a moment out of your busy schedules to pause and show a sign of respect for a complete stranger and his family. It was so touching - I think I cried more in the car during the procession than the rest of the day. My family from out of town was shocked at what was happening, and we felt such pride in our fellow Windsorites. I don't know if this is a Windsor or a "small town" thing, but what an incredibly heart warming act. "Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around." -Leo Buscaglia Thank you, Windsor, for your small act of caring.
We were at our favorite aquarium store, "Aquarium Windsor" last night picking up some chromis fish, which we love by the way. Right next door is Pushers Co. in their new place. We stopped to take a look at their merchandise. Not sure of the guys name that was there but what a great guy. He took the time to talk to us "old folks" and explained a bit about the company. They have some really nice stuff. Good quality and one of a kind. Their prices are really good. If you want original, one of a kind clothing, backpacks etc...make your way downtown to check them out. They are open late on weeknights and even later on weekends. Way to go Pushers Co for not making us feel we were too old to be in the store.
I am not sure how to make a post on spotted from my phone so can you please post it.
Lost and Found
Saturday Septemer 6th while I was at Thiessens Apple orchard I found an iPod touch in the area where you park the cars. I turned it in to an employee who worked in the popcorn section. It had a password lock on it and was in an orange/ red case that had a picture inside it. If it's yours call and claim it. Their number is 519-326-5282. I really hope the owner sees this post.
Tonight I went to frenchies downtown to get a poutine. There was a younger.lady in a wheel chair and she went to the front of the line and the younger couple in front of me were complaining. I didn't say anything at first and when she came back trying to leave the man stood in front of her and wouldn't move.he kept complaining "just because shes in a wheel chair doesn't mean she can get valet service". him and his girl friend started complaining and calling her rude names.and I piped up and said something about how disrespectful he was being and he said he was proud of it. Then threatened to punch me in face (& im a young women)your so tough buddy. but im currently in college and the program im going in to is for helping people who have limitations and cant do Much them selves. Due to illness etc. I just couldn't beleive how rude this guy was.like if that was him imagine how he would feel? You wouldn't want people screaming calling you names just because your in a wheel chair.just because she was in a wheel chair does not make her any different. I just couldn't beleive how rude he was.
