Huntington Disease Fundraiser

Huntington's Indy Go-Kart Challenge
$10,000 raised for HD families in Windsor/ Essex County

Sunday, September 07, 2014

For Immediate Release

(Windsor, ON) The acrid smell of burning rubber drifted over west Windsor on Sunday as local residents got together at Zap Zone Fun Centre to race for a cure for Huntington Disease. The Huntington's Indy Go-Kart Challenge raised over $10,000, which will assist families coping with the devastating effects of Huntington disease

There was some intense racing out there today, joked Paul Bateman, Essex County Chapter President. I heard a lot of trash talking as drivers strapped into the go karts. Paul continues. We are so thankful for the support we receive from our friends, families and sponsors. The money raised today goes toward finding treatments and hopefully, at some point, a cure for this horrible disease. In the meantime a portion of the funds also assists families by providing professional services for those struggling with impact of Huntington Disease on their lives.

The Indy Go-Kart Challenge is a Canada wide event and has been very successful for the Essex County Chapter. Each year at least $10,000 is contributed locally and, to date, well over $1,000,000 nationally.

Huntington disease (HD) is a hereditary brain disorder with devastating effects on both mind and body. 1 in 1,000 Canadians are affected by the disease. Every child of a person with HD has a 50% risk of inheriting the disease.
