Racism on bus #620

02/ 19/ 2018
Around 3:05pm
Racism is obviously not a secret nor a surprise in today's society. However, it is still absolutely disgusting and sad that racist words can be spoken and events can occur in public without a word being said by anyone. It is much easier to keep your face in your phone, your headphones in your ears, and to keep your mouth closed because it's not your business right?

I am a mixed Jamaican/ black/ Caucasian young woman. I was on my way home from work and I'm sitting in the center back of the bus. I pulled the wire for me to get off at my stop. As I stand up and walk towards the front of the bus, the bus driver asks everyone to move to the back of the bus because it is fairly crowded. I had to get off at the front of the bus to get my bike off of the bike rack. One young man decided it was okay to say "Hey Rosa Parks get to the back of the bus!" Did anybody say anything? No.

I did not want to cause a scene and I was so much in shock at what was just said and since he was already at the back of the bus while I was at the front door, I said to the bus driver the disgusting words that were just spoken to me and told him which young man that said it. I mentioned that he should be kicked off of the bus because that is absolutely not acceptable. The bus driver said "oh wow okay." I said thank you and got off the bus.

I took my bike off of the rack and walked onto the sidewalk expecting this man (about 17-22?) to be kicked off the bus or at least spoken to but the bus driver just closed the doors and drove away as I stared in shock.

I'm so disgusted, but not surprised, that comments like this are still said and taken so lightly. The bus driver didn't even say anything to this person and with the bus FULL of people nobody said anything either. How disgusting. How sad. Bless you both and have a fantastic day. ✌🏽

Negativity in online discussions

I am writing this Spotted in Windsor post today about the negativity on the online forums and discussions I am continually reading in current events in our city, specifically in regards to the Caboto Club. I believe that each individual has a voice and should state their opinion but the rude, unnecessary banter that carries on between the discussion boards is unfortunate and does not prove the progression we as a society claim we have attained. I also read the banter and cringe at the opinions that are stated without any facts.
I worked at the Caboto Club for many years, it was a part time job that helped me pay my way through school. I should probably state, that I am a female, and never once was I ever made to feel unwelcome in the club. There are some people that are misguided with information about the club - it is a men's only PRIVATE Italian club, that has grown largely overtime. Women are NOT members BUT they have their own separate club within the same building - The Women's Auxiliary. Within their club they socialize, make decisions, and vote. A lot of the banter has been raised around the woman not having a vote in the Caboto club, in the men's sector this is in fact TRUE, but that is once again a men's private club. The building was formed by the men's club, and over the years at has grown and still remains with them but they have not oppressed woman by not allowing them to enter or form their own clubs or committees, etc. Both the men's and women's sectors do amazing things for our communities. There are multiple charities that they contribute to as it is a non-profit organization. When families within the club are in need, they reach out.
I can tell you that the years I worked there, my voice as an employee was always heard and ideas were seen in changes for our day to day operations. If I had an issue it was addressed and changes were made.
I included these facts so that those that still continue to banter can have fact to their opinion. But I do ask this, do it with kindness. No need for name calling, no need to put down others or belittle anyone we are a community lets begin to act like one.

Is Fundraising out of control?

I'm drained from all the school fundraising. Are others feeling the same? Please explain to me how something that is forbidden (Like chewing gum) is ok only if you pay $1.00. What kind of message is this sending? How is ok for my kid to snack all day for paying $1.00 but the kid next to him that has only a single parent has nothing. With all the hot lunches, cookie dough fundraisers, book fundraisers, basket raffle, auction, pasta dinner fundraisers and hand me all your money fundraisers. When is enough?

Unwanted visitor, this is how it was!!!

Well, I left to run to the store at 6:56:18pm, you showed up in front of my door at 7:12:25pm, you rang the doorbell (around 10 times) and a few times you were peering through the window on my front porch (don't think you could have put your face any closer . OHHHHH did you think other people weren't home??? Ever think some people don't answer their doors to solicitors and people like you!!! At 7:14:51pm you decided to walk to side of my house and hop a 7ft fence into my backyard. At 7:17:22pm something must have startled you, you came from behind the house and dodged back again. Then at 7:19:09pm you decided to make your way to my back door which you were standing there at 7:19:26. You then exited other side gate which you unlocked on your way out!! You started to walk down my driveway at 7:20:06. Geee so sorry "I" wasn't home to greet you!!! I was a few minutes tooo late!!! Don't much appreciate you looking in ALL my windows that you could !!!! Actually, don't much appreciate people, like you, that think they can just do whatever the hell they want!!!! Including invading someone else' personal space !!!! You have been posted, spotted, videos shared, and you have also been reported!! The police were called, they were terrific as they searched my yard and looked to see if you tried to break in!!!. Thanks so much to the 2 officers that froze outside, inspecting my yard and property!! Also thanks for listening to the " special @#!?" names I called that dude!!! Hopefully those wonderful police officers found you in my neighborhood!!! Or maybe you should turn yourself in, I'm sure you are a regular...Thief and delinquent!! Guaranteed We Are Watching!!!! :) It is a shame there are people like you, that feel so friggin entitled!!!

Great job, NOT!!!!

I was literally disgusted to read today about the buildings sitting vacant with large sums of unpaid taxes! Absolutely amazing! One more reason Windsor is so special! Seriously, the City doesn't collect money owed to them for years and the buildings become so worn down, they take losses?? "IF" they can take over the buildings for unpaid taxes? But that's okay us loyal tax paying Windsor residents would love to pick up the slack and continue to pay for and fund the City of Windsors fantastic financing and spending!!! Soooo, I'm thinking if those business' can have tax arrears of hundreds of thousands of dollars...Hmmm Hey everybody we're good to go, for at least a hundred years+ of not paying our city taxes, right???? Not a damn chance!!! How exactly does this happen?? Don't answer the phone(cancel it actually), don't answer the door, keep the curtains, blinds or what have you closed and put all city of Windsor finance dept. mail back in the mailbox??? Is it truly that simple? Hahahhaha Could you honestly see us getting away with not paying our taxes?Collecting taxes from business' is someones job?? Now I know why my taxes went up $120 per month to $500 monthly, and I don't even live in a mansion!!! If the city tweaks their receivable department ( collects those hundreds of thousands before it even gets to that point!!!!), maybe we can get our roads fixed???
I'm truly not surprised, Great job, NOT!!!

Customers shopping with little ones

I have seen this so many times and absolutely disgusted at this generation being raised. Often seeing the most disrespect while shopping with there kiddos. Just a reminder... if you are bringing your children out too shop please be mindful and watch them. I see it often however this evening I saw it and wanted to share. Workers are trying to clean their store while parents are shopping and letting them run around, destroying sections of the store. The workers asked them politely to stop running repeatedly and to put things back when they were done. The parents did not care what so ever and continued to wreck the store themselves. It's distasteful and just plain rude! Have some respect. Not to mention the fact that running through stores while other customers are trying to shop is quite annoying as well as those kids could end up hurt.

All in all if this isn't you please don't be offended however if this is your parenting style take as much offence as you want as long as you got the message !

Fake Door to Door Water Inspection

I was home on my lunch and some young guy came to the door with a binder and a somewhat credible looking name badge for Water Source (or something like that) and asked if I had copper pipes. When I responded, "I think so" he started mumbling about checking my water intake in the house and said, "do you want my shoes off when I come in?" and motioned toward me like he was coming in.

I told him that he was not coming in my house to check anything. I saw him and another young guy knocking on every door up and down the street (Gladstone Ave. in Walkerville). Not sure what they were up to but I am sure it was nothing good and I thought that the community should know.

To the Magic Card Theif

My best friends had all their best Magic the Gathering cards stolen, among a few other prized possessions.

If you Mr thief, happen to see this, please know that you just stole from two of the kindest hearted people i've ever met. Had you befriended them, they would have given you the shirts from their backs. They would have helped you in any way possible, so you would never feel the need to take what is not yours. Now, after over 13 years of collecting, their hearts are broken and they may have given up on something they have been passionate about since they were in high school. I know you won't care, but because I am a sincerely good person, I hope Karma never catches up to you, because I don't think you can handle the torment that you would deserve for this.
