Remember to Wear Orange on September 30!

Orange Shirt Day is a legacy of the St. Joseph Mission (SJM) residential school commemoration event held in Williams Lake, BC, Canada, in the spring of 2013. It grew out of Phyllis's account of having her shiny new orange shirt taken away on her first day of school at the Mission, and it has become an opportunity to keep the discussion on all aspects of residential schools happening annually. The date was chosen because it is the time of year in which children were taken from their homes to residential schools, and because it is an opportunity to set the stage for anti-racism and anti-bullying policies for the coming school year. Orange Shirt Day is also an opportunity for First Nations, local governments, schools and communities to come together in the spirit of reconciliation and hope for generations of children to come.

Appalling Behaviour

To the guy on Grand Marais and Howard,

I am disgusted by your behaviour towards the female jogger tonight. You were cussing her out and calling her all kinds of names while you were walking your two dogs. You were also so loud about it that I could hear you from inside a building.

Why can't anybody in this town disagree and just walk away? Why does everything escalate to a full blown public confrontation? People chasing each other down in their cars, telling each other to f*ck off, arguing in the middle of the street. Such disgraceful behaviour.

Found Kitty

Found a very friendly grey and white kitten today in the area of Howard and Shepherd . I haven't seen this little guy around before so I am thinking he belongs to somebody. He is fairly clean but was very hungry.

above and beyond

my husband spent 34 days in Windsor regional Ouellette campus ( Hotel Dieu) for a tramatic brain injury. ( a result of an unfortunate event brought on by a coward but that's another story in itself) He started in ER was moved to ICU than transferred to floor 8. while in ICU he was pretty much out for 8 days to calm his brain. He was on IV's, breathing tube, feeding tube and tied down to his bed. As you can imagine this was a horrific site for our 2 boys. the nursing staff did an amazing job helping our sons understand what their dad was going through and explaining every tube and monitor to them. Once my husband woke they were so calm with him even through is HULK stages. On the 8th floor the nursing staff, manager and social worker really helped us get through some rough stages and start moving towards recovery. My husband had to have a week or so under 24hr supervision. This was an extra resource for the hospital but they provided us with the hospital security guards from G4S. That company has some amazing people working for them! they made my husband feel comfortable and with a "buddy" 24 hours a day my husband always had someone to talk to when I had to run home. I want the guards at the Ouellette campus to know that they truly did help my husband find his voice again. You guys kept him talking and his speech got better day by day!
My husband is home now and ready to start all his rehab therapies and we got this far ( from life support to walking and talking) with the amazing staff at Windsor Reginal Ouellette Campus.
Your staff really did go above and beyond! thank you xoxo the Pillon Family.

Car seats

On Sunday afternoon, around 115 pm, I was getting gas at the Esso station on Howard and the EC Row. Noticed a 2000 silver Taurus getting gas next to me and noticed the three small boys in the back seat. The troubling thing was...all of them were most definitely under the age of 8 and not one of them were in booster seats!! The smallest boy was probably 4 and could barely see out the window! Sorry but coming from a mother of three small kids myself, put your kids in car seats PLEASE! Not only is this highly illegal but so so unsafe. In the event of a crash, those children would get launched out of their ill fitting seat belts. This mother was extremely rude and inappropriate speaking to her children as well. The older one asked her to turn down the extremely loud rap music so he could tell her something and she screamed 'NO!' To him. Smdh. Wish I had gotten her license plate number to report her to the police but I was so shocked, I didn't think of it. People need to be more informed on not only what the law is but also what is the safest thing for your children!

Missing Siamese looking cat on Giles Blvd E

My cat escaped last night from our home. We are located on Giles Blvd E between Howard and Parent. She is a female spayed seal point siamese looking cat. Two blue eyes and is polydactyl meaning she has more then the normal number of toes on her feet. She has at least 7 on her front feet and 6 on her hind. She is front declawed. She is microchipped as well. She is a very VERY scared cat and always hides when people come over. Im guessing she is hiding somewhere outside in someones garden or under something. She doesnt like to be approached or picked up so if someone finds her PLEASE call or text 519-802-7737 OR 226-757-4684.
