The kindness of strangers

To the multiple people at the park on Riverdale May 4 Saturday afternoon who trudged through mud and puddles in the wet grass, got bags of treats and food out of their cars, ruined clothes and shoes and committed two hours of their time to helping us catch a dog we were watching That got out from underneath our fence.

A million times thank you!

If it hadn't been for the people that jumped in to help me I don't believe I would have caught her!

People stopped their cars, kids came from the playground, people that were leaving the park stayed to try and help catch the dog! Never have I ever been so grateful for the kindness of strangers !

This pup is safe and sound because of all of you!! Thank you !!!

Out for a stroll

Saturday May 4th at about 1:30pm, this cute family of Canadian Geese & their babies decided to cross the 4 lanes of Tecumseh Rd near Crafty Business. I witnessed them cross as oncoming traffic was busy & approaching from both ways. Thank you to all those that slowed down, stopped their vehicles and didnt honk at the geese to scare them. Thank you for respecting nature. It was a relief to see this family get safely to the other side. Hopefully, they dont make this a daily habit.

Paying respect

On Tuesday April 23rd. we attended a funeral at families first on Dougall and when the long procession was going to the cemetery there were so many people who pulled over out of respect, but the one act of sincere respect was at the corner of Cabana and Dougall there was a group of men working on the corner and all of them stopped what they were doing took off their hard hats and held them over their hearts until the procession passed. It is wonderful to see that even though there is a lot of upset in the world, they took the time to care. Thank you to all who pulled aside to pay respect. Sincerely appreciated.

Lacasse Park

So ever since I read the "before calling 911" post yesterday this has been bothering me. As the woman who did call the cops, I just want to clear some things up. First, it was 2 women and 1 man. Secondly, we did not call because your son and the man did not look like each other. We called because as soon as they walked out of the mans vehicle the man said "what was your name again?" and the kid said "My name is xxx" and the man said "Okay, my name is xxxx". So, I'm sorry that it upset you that we called but that was a red flag to us. We even spoke to the police officer after and he told us that the man said it was his first day working with the kid and forgot his name so he understands how that could have looked bad. We did not know that he was a Respite worker, nor did we even think that? I'm glad that your son was not in danger, but he could have been. I would have felt horrible if it was a different situation where the kid actually did not know the man and I did not call. There's been too many stories these days of children getting kidnapped so we just wanted to be on the safe side.

A Good Samaritan

A group of students from Southwood school conducted a neighborhood clean up in honour of Earth Day. While they were picking up garbage in the neighborhood, a man drove up and thanked the students for being good environmental stewards. He then gave a generous financial donation to our school's Eco team. We did not get this man's name, but this kind act renewed our faith that what our students were doing was valuable and important! To the man in the white van, thank you for paying it forward! & #9829;& #65039;

Before calling 911

So this has been bothing me since Tuesday and I need to share.

My son who is 8 years old went to Lacasse Park in Tecumseh with his Respite Worker. It was their first day together after a few months of me trying to find one for him with no luck, but that's not the problem.

While they were out I received a phone call from a private name, private number, it was a police officer asking if I knew that my son was with this man This man who by the way has a police clearance in order to become a respite worker, this man who I had interviewed a week prior.
All because 3 woman noticed that my son didn't look like the man he was with, so their conclusion of the situation was that the man isn't his father, so he must be kidnapped because he's calling the man by his first name.

1st thank you for being that concerned, but 2nd please people be aware that not all children with Respite Workers are in wheel chairs, or have Autisim, or Down Syndrom, some kids have mental health issues, and hidden behaviour issues and need a Respite Worker. 3rd that man my child was with could have been an uncle, family friend, neighbor or a boyfriend of mine, because my son's father isn't around and hasn't been for 5 years.

Please when being observant, you keep all factors in mind before calling 911 and reporting things.

Bullying Intervention

So my husband and I were at Wendy's at Ouellette and Tecumseh when 3 young guys were bullying a smaller fella outside the restaurant. The smaller fella opened his backpack and handed over what looked like a video game. The 3 bullies grabbed it and ran off. A passenger in a car on Tecumseh Rd witnessed what happened and got out of a car and ran after the bullies. He caught them and got the game back and returned it to the smaller fella.

What an awesome guy to not just sit back and watch but to take action.
