Abuse of teens picketing

On Sunday at Superstore on Dougall a young girl picketing and giving out flyers was called a "fugly b***h" and an "uneducated f**k" by a couple leaving the store. She is 17 and just graduated from highschool. Everyone is talking about the negative treatment of customers by staff however some of the customers are being extremely unkind and deliberately provoking as well. I agree that alienating customers is not going to win any battles however customers should not feel that it is open season to say anything they want to picketers either. There has to be respect on both sides. A little known fact about the contract, this is the first time in history a Loblaws contract has had to include language about customer abuse, something that has sadly become more prominent and aggressive from some customers. Also, most of the younger kids aren't the ones treating customers badly, they are intimidated by this whole situation and have been far less vocal. I have over 40 hours on the picket line this week and have actually been told by customers they appreciate how polite I am and the approach I've taken. I have not mistreated anyone but I do give out flyers and inform customers as well as answer questions to the best of my ability. What I simply cannot tolerate is kids being picked on because they are easier targets. If you feel you have been mistreated please ask for a picket manager/ captain but please refrain from hurling foul language at kids. If you wouldn't talk that way to your child or grandchild please don't to the kids picketing.
