Blind Man In Need of A Helping Hand

I recently had a slip and fall accident at my place of work. As a result I sustained injury and had to seek medical attention. While I was sitting in the waiting room at the hospital I noticed an older gentleman, about 70-80 years old, blind and with a walking stick get up and proceed outside. Although he struggled to find the door he made it through the emergency exit to have a smoke. However he could not get back in. He kept bumping into the windows and walking in the wrong direction. He could not find the entrance back inside. An entire room full of people sat and watched this man struggle instead of getting up to help! Had I not been injured I would have gotten up myself. It was my mother who got up, walked outside, brought the man back in and got him settled in his seat. It was really disturbing to me that all of these able bodied adults sat and watched this man struggle. We were sitting at the back of the ER waiting room and it was noticeable that this man was struggling and stuck outside.

What was even worse is that the security guard was too busy playing on his cell phone to notice and when he did notice he didn't get up out of his booth and lead the man in. No one offered him a wheel chair or a helping hand.

I hope that none of those people sitting in the waiting room ever loose their vision and need assistance. It's a lonely world when everyone just looks out for themselves.
