Dedicated to the general sights, news and funny happenings in the wonderful city of Windsor
I was at the superstore on walker road today around noon and a man parked next to me, left only his front windows down maybe 6" and went inside.... With his large dog in the back seat! I wasn't sure what to do, even though I've seen many posts from the humane society specifically telling owners not to leave pets in their vehicles. I stopped a women walking by, and asked what I should do. It was about 75 degrees at the time, but I know inside the car can get much hotter and fast. She was as concerned as I was. The dog was not in distress at the time, so she called non emergent police line and they said to contact the humane society. I called and they said they'd be right over. While waiting for the HS, a fire truck showed up to get groceries, so I went over and told them what was going on. They came over and one fire fighter waited with us while the HS was on their way. 15min later they showed up. At this point it had been 30min since the man went into the store. Basically the HS said there's nothing legally a bystander can do besides call them and report it, but most times the owners are long gone before they arrive.
I just don't understand with all the information these days, and the HS putting out so much information asking owners not to do this, it's still done. Every day. If you own a dog PLEASE do not leave them in your vehicles! If you are out running errands, leave your pets at home! Or leave your car running, locked, with the air conditioning on. There was another van parked a few over and I could hear the dogs barking but they had left it running with the air on. Use some common sense people! I am not even a big dog lover, but this still bothered me! When will people wake up??
I still don't know what to do if faced with this situation again. If a dog is in distress, and I brake a window, and help the dog, and call 911, what if someone comes out and attacks me because I broke their window? What if I get charged with vandalism? What if I have to pay for their window? That's not something I want to happen.... So what are we supposed to do??
What ended up happening was the fire fighter went inside and had the man paged by vehicle description and license plate and was told to come out. The total time he was in there was about 45 minutes, and he could very well have been longer if he wasn't paged because he came out empty handed. The HS handed him a pamphlet and educated him on he subject. I sure hope he learned something and will not do this again! The dog was ok.
We ALL should be paying attention to vehicles while we walk through parking lots this summer. At least 50+ people passed us during this time and no one else noticed. If we can all pay a little more attention maybe we can save some pets this summer!
Blue car with license plate PT BEAR was driving recklessly down the 401 East on Friday June 6th @ 6:00 PM. You were clearly over 160 km/ hr as you passed in and out of traffic. I hope you got a ticket for careless driving on the way to your destination, or before you hurt yourself or someone else.
To the man in the Pepsi truck that slit the deer's throat on Riverside Drive this morning, after the poor animal had been hit by a car. You sir committed a crime, whether you think it was the right thing to do, or not. It was a very traumatizing and disgusting thing for my young son to witness. I hope that the proper authorities got in contact with you and your employer after we called to report your crime.
After a long day out and about, we went grocery shopping at the Zehrs on Malden Rd. Once we were finished shopping, we found a checkout that had only one women who appeared to be finished her order. However, the new cashier had forgotten to have the women swipe her card for the PC Points and had to get the supervisor to void the entire order, and by this I mean scan each item individually to void it, and then re-scan every item a second time. The supervisor, whose name I believe to be Josette, did not once acknowledge my family waiting there and apologize for the wait/ reassure us that it would only be a moment more. After waiting there for between 10-15 minutes, we asked the supervisor if we should repack our items and move to another cash. Josette became very snippy (as usual since I've had issues with her before) and said "that this was a situation that needed to be taken care of and we would have to wait." Once again, she did not apologize for the long wait. Very poor customer service, unfriendly to paying customers, didn't know what red kale was, Josette, you have been spotted!
While at the Strawberry Festival with my family, I "spotted" a member of St. John Ambulance taking time to smoke while in uniform - in full view of the public. For a health-related organization, you sir, are certainly are not setting a good example, especially considering all of the young people/ children in attendance.
Stay classy.....
To the person driving the sedan on Logan this morning, your dogs went ballistic when they saw my dog and me walking quietly along the sidewalk. One was on your dashboard, and the other one was bouncing hysterically around the back seat trying to get at us through the rear window. It completely startled us and my dog reacted, wrenching my back and nearly knocking me off my feet. NOT NICE! I can't count the number of times this has happened in the past eight years since I adopted my sweet girl at a pet rescue. People, PLEASE, for everyone's safety, if your dog can't behave in the car, use a crate, or leave it at home! It's just as bad or worse than texting while driving!
