Phone Conversations

I may be old fashioned however I still think that there is a time and a place for manners to kick in. Tonight, while at Dollarama, standing in line , there was a woman ahead of us. She was talking on her cell phone. So loud that everyone within ear shot could hear her. There was no eavesdropping required. I will not repeat verbatim what her side of the conversation was, but I will say all she bought was some candy bars. I and others in line thought this was very rude of her. Not only did we hear her side of the conversation, but when it was her turn at the till, she continued to have her conversation with unknown party on the other end of the line. The poor cashier was so disrespected by this woman. Yes that is disrespect when you cannot even bother to end a call in order to talk to another person handling your purchases.

To my way of thinking, if said party called her, while she was in the store she could have said that she was busy and would call them back. If she made the call, there are other places she could have done that. The entire store does not want to hear your personal conversations. Just because a cell phone is portable does not mean that you need to carry on a conversation where ever you happen to be. People do it in the banks, at the doctors, where ever they happen to be. I am grateful that the conversation was not about sex, and yes I have heard one sided conversations about that in public. If you do not want the entire world to know what you are talking about, who you are talking about, or what activities you are planning or not, don't hold a private conversation in public. That is what your home is for!

WECDSB closes St. Joseph's basketball courts

Hello,

I am starting this petition to discuss the recent closure of the basketball courts at St. Joseph's High School. As a former student of St. Joseph's. I have always enjoyed being able to play basketball at the courts, alongside many others since the school was first built in 2006. We have been spending our afternoons doing this for nearly 9 years and up until now there has never been a problem nor complaint.

There are now locks on the doors and a security guard making sure no body enters the courts. Also the school board telling us that we need to rent these grounds from here on out if we are to play at these courts. We am formulating this petition in efforts to reopen the basketball court to the community.

I have not seen any other basketball courts around the city being locked up like this. I think you could agree with me here that if someone were to rent out a space to play basketball, it would be a gymnasium. The school board has indicated to us that the soccer field at St. Joe's HS which is on the same property the basketball court is "rented". I have approached the friendly people that partake in soccer practices a couple times a week that have also been there for a few years to find out if they pay any kind of rental fee to use the track/ soccer field, and they stated that they did not.

The courts are small as it is, and do not even have proper netting on the rims. Only 1 out of 6 nets have mesh that we have personally put up, not the school board. All of us here at the courts have also maintained and respected the grounds and cleaned up all garbage. Making people pay for this court seems a bit extreme. Especially after so many years. We don't know what seems to be the problem. Many other guys alongside myself are only trying to live a healthy lifestyle by playing basketball somewhere near our homes, and feel this closure is discouraging this.

As most of us are former students of the school and residents of the area, we would like to continue to be able to play basketball where we always have. We now ask you of your time to please sign our petition so we can forward this to the school board in efforts of re-opening the courts to the community as it always has been.

We thank you in advance,

Fellas from the basketball courts at St. Joe's

Ignorant Costco Member

To the lady in the food court line behind me at Costco today who decided it would be a great idea to cut in front of me saying "I'm just getting a pop" while avoiding eye contact and a look of disgust on her face while quickly going up to pay...I understand you were just getting a pop. Congratulations. It wouldn't have been an issue had you asked politely and actually waited for a response. Next time, have some manners and wait just like every other person that was in line. My 10 month old son has more manners than you. I hope your pop spilt all over you when you left Costco.
Sincerely,
The woman who learned to wait her turn in Kindergarten

purse stolen out of hospital room

Just an FYI for everyone at the Windsor Regional Ouellette Campus, my mother's purse was stolen right out of her hospital room around 330-4 pm today!
A little background information: she's currently being treated for lung cancer, along with complications and all her chemotherapy medication, appointment times, wallet etc. were in there. Everything worth something to her has been stolen. To the scumbags who decided to pray on the sick, karma will come around and you WILL reap what you sow. Patients, families and friends keep your belongings with you at ALL times. The monetary items can be replaced but those sentimental ones can not! Beyond disappointed.

On my passenger seat was a backpack with clothes, drugs, needles, and A COPY OF A BIRTH CERTIFICATE AND HEALTH CARD. The bag has been given to authorities and noted you are caught on security camera. Im hoping family of his will see this or people he knows and just give him a right shaming.

First Stop Convenience, NOT CONVENIENT!

This posting is actually a bit of bad and good all in one. I was injured at a city park while walking my dogs and playing basketball with my son this morning. I will spare those details at this time. As I limped with my 10 year-old's assistance to a nearby corner plaza, I was hoping to use the phone in the convenience store. He ran ahead trying to be helpful in the situation asking to use their phone so he could call my mom (his grandma) for a ride. He came out of the store saying that they refused to let him make the call. I couldn't believe it so I limped in and reasked, fully explaining the situation and was met with such disdain and insensitivity from the store owners. She chastised me about coming in and asking for a favour and said my son had already come in. I think I was in shock as we had a few words about how inhumane it was that she would not allow someone clearly injured to make a local call to get assistance. I just walked out feeling so defeated. I am writing this because I think it is so sad that this actually happened in my neighbourhood. My son tried a friend's house next, others walked by without any words, then we finally ventured to another store in the plaza. This is where the story turns around in a positive way.
As I approached the Fontainebleu I.D.A. Pharmacy, I was met with compassion and kindness from the employees right inside the door. As I was physically assisted to the counter to make my call, I was offered an ice pack and a cold bottle of water. By this time, I was shedding a few tears of pain and frustration. They then arranged chairs for me to sit and lift my swollen foot up as I waited for a ride. All this time, my son waiting patiently outside with our dogs, was kept up to speed and invited to sit in the shade at the store front. I want to give a huge shout out of "THANKS!" to everyone at the Fontainebleu I.D.A. Pharmacy, especially Brenda who helped me out to my mom's car and wished me well along with giving some first-aid advice. You were all truly Good Samaritans today and have restored my faith in humanity!
Please, if you are reading this, do not be swayed in our "mind your own business" society to walk by when you sense someone is in need. Take the time to connect with your fellow neighbour and offer your assistance. You can truly make a difference in our world!

Dine n Dash

Took my kids to Boston pizza on walker. My oldest sons girlfriend works there and her and the waitress both apologized for the wait because they were understaffed and just received a call saying 60 people were coming in. There was many dressed in baseball uniforms so assume a baseball tourney in the area. This wasn't one bill do gratuity not added to it, each table had separate bill. Not one person tipped out of those 60 people and to top it off, 2 tables pulled a dine and dash! Inconsiderate, rude people need to realize that their little "fun" game has the staff worried they are going to be in trouble over this! Shame on you. As a side note, thank you to the wait staff for doing the best they could being short handed, very nice and pleasant and apologetic for the wait.
