My first 5K...

Today at 6am, I woke to a day that I was told two years ago would never be able to happen. Two years ago, I had contracted Guillian Barre Syndrome from a cold that had mutated leaving me completely paralyzed from the neck down. Guillian Barre Syndrome is extremely painful as it eats away the coating on your nerves and interrupts the signals those nerves send to your brain. Exposed nerves are extremely painful. This shut everything off like a light switch. Arms, legs, gone. I was sent to 8w at Hotel Dieu, where I met the two most amazing nurses of my life, Emily and Lori, who made my journey into hell that much more bearable. They were where I found my strength to move, to try, and after to weeks I was sent to Malden Park for rehab. Two and a half months of intense physio therapy at Malden Park, Thank you, Anita, Majjic, and many many others, I left barely walking under my own power but not before meeting Carla.
Her solution to my problem of seven steps into my house was simple. Spend $10,000 on a chair lift, or sell the house. I wasn't getting any better according to her, so to this woman, F you.
So today as I prepared on the morning of my first 5k that I was told I would never be able to do, I say thank you to all those who helped push me from Hotel Dieu, Malden Park, and the people who watched me at work recover. To those who need it, NEVER lose hope, push and don't give up. There is light even in the middle of the tunnel. Find the strength.

We all need to take a minute and give thanks.

Sometimes we all need to look up and count our blessings.

Saved after being locked out

On the day of the Dirty Diva run, my sister-in-law and I thought we had a brilliant idea to place my automatic starter in a ziploc bag and in my pocket before the run! After the run and some fun, I went to get the bag out of my pocket only to discover that the bag had not sealed properly and my starter was wet and not working. Thankfully after several tries and a few phone calls, we sought the assistance of a firefighter who was volunteering at the race. A sincere thank you to John, a Kingsville firefighter, who took the time to disassemble my starter and clean it out! This allowed us to finally get back into the car an hour after the race. Despite being covered in mud from head to toe, we so grateful to get into the car and drive home!!

Very thankful

Today I locked my keys and cell phone in the car with it running. I would like to thank Kyla from Shell gas station on Ojibway for all the help to get back into my car. I tried to give her a little something (20$) which she refused, all she said was I would hope someone helps me if i'm in same position. Thanks Kyla .... I guess there really are selfless, kind people out there like Kyla.

To the city workers driving the wood chipper truck on Banwell around 3:20 today... You stopped and bought a couple glasses of iced tea from the young girls that set up a stand. The big smiles on their faces made me smile too!

Great morning in downtown Windsor

I just wanted to share my morning in downtown Windsor. I had to go to the passport office, which I was dreading, but everyone was so incredibly kind and pleasant--both the staff and the people waiting for service--that it actually made my time there enjoyable!

While I was parking by the river, I must have seen 5 people who were leaving offer their parking stubs with extra time on them to other people who were coming into the lot. I was pushing a stroller, and nearly everyone held doors open for me wherever I went. An elderly woman had fallen on the sidewalk, and everyone around her rushed to help her up and made sure she was okay.

Honestly, almost every person I encountered today was pleasant and smiling, and it just made me so grateful to live in this awesome city. Windsor, you made my morning!
